Question:

What size pump do I need for my reactor when running ROWAphos?

Answer:

It will depend on the reactor and the ammount of ROWAphos being used.

For smaller reactors such as the FMR75 or Deltec FR509, running ROWAphos only with the top and bottom sponges included with the reactor, a pump of around 500-600LPH is usually sufficient. It is always advised to make sure that there is a flow control tap installed so the flow can be adjusted to suit individual needs. If the pipe work on the reactor is very long or has to pump up more than 50cm a larger pump may be required. Please refer to the pumps flow chart to determine the level of flow you will get at the height required.

On larger reactors a bigger pump will be needed and an indication of the flow rate required for the reactor is usually specified within the unit instructions. ROWAphos is a fairly light media so the lower end of a reactors recomended flow rate is often sufficient.

When running ROWAphos the pump needs to be just powerfull enough to fluidise it very lightly, just enough that the surface of the media looks like it is fizzing or boiling.
