Question:

Can I take my chiller off the tank in the winter when I do not need it?

Answer:

Generally chillers can be left on an aquarium all year round as they have a built in thermostat and will only cool the water when required.

If needed the chiller can be taken offline and stored. We would recommend that the unit is flushed through with fresh water before storing and the unit drained. The chiller should not be tipped upside down to drain, the best way is to connect a hose to the inlet and outlet and blow down one of the pipes to expell as much water as possible.

The chiller should then be stored in a dry place where it will not be subject to freezing temperatures.

Before re-installing the chiller flush the unit through again with fresh water to remove any water that may have been trapped inside during storage.
