Deltec NFP Nitrate Reactors

Hand built in Germany the Deltec NFP range of Nitrate Filters are a simple and efficient way of reducing the nitrate level in your aquarium.

By using a reaction chamber with a slow water throughput along with alcohol, as a carbon source, a low oxygen environment is created that provides the ideal conditions for bacteria to grow that naturally convert nitrate to nitrogen gas using a biological reduction process.

With four models in the range there is something suitable for saltwater aquariums between 200 and 5000 litres, on larger systems multiple units can be used.

Once established these filters are very effective and robust in their ability to remove nitrate from the water and can be operated in manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic modes with the addition of peristaltic pumps and a redox controller.

An included internal re-circulation pump combined with the special woven media allows even distribution of water flow inside the reaction chamber for maximum efficiency and to prevent dead spots that could become anoxic.

The Deltec NFP Reactors have a purposefully large outlet pipe to ensure good flow from the reactor and to prevent blockages that could restrict water flow. The units can be run externally or partly submerged in a sump, the outlet of the reactor however should ideally be positioned so that it is not going uphill to allow water to escape freely.

Simple to use and maintain the Deltec NFP Reactors feature twist off bayonet lid to allow easy tool free access and unions on the internal circulation pump for easy removal during maintenance.

Running your NFP Reactor

A separate pump, not included, is needed to feed water through the reactor at a slow rate. Although it is possible to supply water to these reactors by taking a feed from a return pump or external filter etc. it is best to use a dedicated peristaltic pump capable of constant running to ensure a constant slow and steady flow. For this, depending on the water throughput needed, a D-D P1 STP or Kamoer FX-STP2 are suitable.

The alcohol-based food can be added manually using a syringe or automatically by dosing pump like the D-D P1+.

Automating the running of the rector with the use of a Peristaltic and Dosing pump will ensure you get the best results and more efficient, stable and controllable Nitrate reduction.

Deltec’s Multi-Purpose Reactor Design

Should you need to re-purpose the reactor over time Deltec have made the components of their latest reactor ranges universal to allow for the NFP reactor to be easily converted to a PF Calcium Reactor or FR fluidised reactor using additional components, available separately.
