Question:

Can I mount an Aquaillumination light inside an aquarium hood?

Answer:

The AI units are not waterproof and require adequate ventelation, therefore inside an aquarium hood there is a high potential that the lights will not be able to operate correctly and may become damaged from moisture ingress.

To get the spread of light from the units we would also reccomend that the bottom of the lights are positioned 8-12" from the surface of the water. This is usually not possible inside an aquarium hood.

It is possible to mount the lights in open air above the aquarium and use an open top pelmet to hide the top of the aquarium and the lights. This will give a simular look to a box hood but will allow ventelation for the lights and correct height above the water.
