I have bought a large (500ml) tub of rowaphos to lower my phosphate levels - it was recommended to me by my local fish store. However, based on your literature I only need a small amount at a time (my tropical tank is 220litres / phosphate level is currently 0.25) so how do I measure out the correct amount to go into my external filter? And what is the correct amount? I am very confused because you sell it as 500ml but that is a liquid measurement and your product is solid. Do I weigh it?
Please help as I am very confused.
Regards.
Hi Mr Fereday
As per the information shown in the link below 500ml of product is enough to
remove 3ppm of Phosphate from 4000l of fresh water.
http://www.theaquariumsolution.com/rowaphos-capacity-information
So with this info at hand i would use 50ml of product in a 220l tropical
aquarium. Although this would be slightly more media than
Rowa quote as effective for your size aquarium there maybe some reduced
efficiency over time within the canister if water starts to wash around
the media instead of through it.
This amount of media will be able to remove over 12 times the amount of PO4
than is present in your aquarium so should remain active
for around 2-3 months depending on the PO4 brought in from any water change
and feeding regime.
As Rowaphos is measured by volume the easiest way to measure is either by
measuring jug or a 5ml teaspoon for smaller amounts.
Hope this helps Tony
