New Nutri-fix pellets floating

Question:

Hi
I have just set up a FMR75 reactor kit with 1ltr of nutrifix pellets and switched it on. The bottom 25% have fluidized but the top 75% have moved to the top of the reactor and are stationary, I have tried altering the flow but it stays the same is this normal and if not have you any ideas

Thanks in advance

Richard

Answer:

Hi Richard

As the pellets are new they will have a high surface tension and this will cause micro air bubbles
to collect on the surface and the pellets to rise to the top of the reactor.

After 7-14 days the bio films that have built on the pellets should stabilise the surface tension and
the pellets should drift to the bottom. It helps to switch the feed pump off and rattle the reactor to
get the pellets to drop after around five days and then fire the reactor back up again.

regards Tony
