In this instance your retailer is correct, tap water will contain Nitrate
and Phosphate which will fuel
nuisance algae as well as retard coral growth or even kill coral.

There can also be a host of other nastiness in tap water including low level
contaminants such as pesticides and copper.

We highly recommend the use of high quality RO water when mixing D-D H2Ocean
and personally i would only ever use tap water in the case of a dire emergency even if treated with
dechlorinator
