MCE600 noise and vibration

Question:

Dear Madam/Sir,

I am writing you because I am facing a problem with my MCE600 protein skimmer. It is about a week now that the pump has started to make noise.

I had cleaned all parts thoroughly and after I installed them again the pump starts to make noise. The noise is become louder and if I close and open the air it is stop for a while, after 5-10 minutes it starts over again.
My pump is the one with the ceramic part and the red silicone; I am using this skimmer for almost 3 years and I was wondering if the ceramic parts need replacement. If this is the case how can I order them?
Further to this, I have also read from your site the article with the possible reasons of noise (POSSIBLE REASON 3 - worn bushes (Aquabee Models), as I understand the mentioned problem concern the previously version of aquabee pumps and not the one that I owned. Is there any possibility the ceramic part to be shrinking?

I also noticed that the plate behind the pump which pushes down the impeller does not close firmly, any suggestions on that? All parts seem to be in perfect condition.

Thank you very much in advance for your help

Answer:

Tassos
I suspect that you see a vibration noise
I will pass this to the factory for you to see if it can be passed on to your local distributer.

I cannot think of any immediate reason why the noise gets louder when you open and close the tap. It normally will get louder with the tap closed as the pump impellor moves forward and rubs against the front pump housing.

Check the air line is completely clear and look at some of the FAQ on our website

Responce

Stuart,

Thank you very much for your prompt answer,

The air line is completely clear, I have already checked this several times during the last days. Also I've checked all FAQs relative to MCE600.
Let's wait for the factory's response.

Kind regards,
Tassos

DELTEC response

Tassos,

it is very difficult to access from a distance what kind of noise you refer to and may cause it. Although in principle it is very simple

1. a noise coming directly from the pump
2. a resonance noise

The pump - it could be the bearings, remove the two bearings and fit them to the ceramic shaft of the impeller. They should have a sliding fit and not 'wobble', check the ceramic shaft for damage.
Check the internal pump flap for easy movement (part no. 8a). If this flap is calcified and block the pump, performance is low and can be noisy
Check the airline for any kinks.

Resonance -
Check the two silicone dampeners (no. 23) fitted to the pump.
Ensure that divider plate no. 11 is firmly pressed onto the pump and stays there. If not, screw in the 4 mm nylon screw against the foam cup.

Good luck
Regards
Deltec GmbH.
