MCE 600 has become noisey

Question:

I have the MCE600 skimmer which I have had now for about 9 months. It has been doing a fantastic job on my tank since purchase.
It has never been the quietist skimmer in the world but being hang on I sorted of expected some noise, but over the past few months the pump has become extremely noisy. I have cleaned everything, reseated the pump, made sure the air line isn't blocked etc.
Please could you suggest anything else I can try, before the missus makes me turn it off on an evening, which I really don't want to do as the tank
 is reasonably stocked.

Regards,

Paul Sharpe

Answer:

Hi Paul

If the skimmer doesn't include the new sound attenuation kit you can purchase one at low cost directly from us at a cost of £2.99 plus P&P.

If the skimmer is a newer model and comes with the sound dampening kit then you can find some good information regarding reducing noise and vibration of the skimmer here:

Noise can usually be traced to vibration between the skimmer and aquarium or the grommets/bushes either shrinking or not being seated correctly. Make sure the grommets are installed squarely by smearing a little Vaseline on them before pushing them back into the pump so they don't snag in the housing and twist slightly.

Also make sure the air tap is clean as dust can collect in there thus reducing available air, this can cause the pump become noisy as if the air is restricted too much the impeller will move forward until the pins touch the front cover.

Hope this helps

Regards Tony
