Answer:
Glenn,
The reflexx light mounting legs are adjustable as the hinge cam bracket slides into a channel on the rear of the light (channels run both sides of the light). To access the channels you simply remove the light end plates and then the mounting legs can be fitted. Once fitted and in the required place the end caps are refitted.
The mounting legs do actually extend outwards so if fitted right near each end of the light they will fit an aquarium longer than 1500mm. The legs extend approx 50-55mm each leg support, so you could fit a 1500mm light onto a 1600mm aquarium if you wanted to have the legs mounted on the side walls of the tank.
The down side is that the light is not so well supported due to the support legs being so far apart and right on the end of the light unit. There is however a solution to the problem
For example i run a 1500mm reflexx t5 unit on a 160cm aquarium. I fitted solid plastic braces (though you could use glass straps) to run across the width of the tank. The braces on my system are 70mm from each end of the tank as this suited my tank. The legs then fit onto the braces. This allows good support for the light and the braces don’t get in the way of the light. The support legs fitted to my light are 60mm in from each end of the light. This has worked well for me.
You can locate support braces for the light anywhere on the aquarium as long as they offer support (ie not too close or ideally too far apart). I used the overflow weir and the dry chamber on the tank to help take some of the weight of the light, though it should be ok on thick glass brace bars. For information the legs will fit glass up to maximum 15mm thickness so bear that in mind when buying you glass straps for the support braces. 10-12mm straps would be ok. These can be siliconed onto the aquarium for a really neat install. The light support legs then mounts onto the straps. Remember to mount the straps vertically across the aquarium brace bars. The support legs are held in place by two screws per leg that clamp the support to the glass brace.
If you need any further information please come back to me.
