Floating base Aquarium strength

Question:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Previously, I bought a second hand Deltec aquarium (130x50x60) and noticed the unique Deltec floating base design and a few questions came to my mind. I hope you can help me with my questions. These are:

- Do I need to take particular care of setting up the aquarium?
- How much load (stones, sand etc) can be carried?
- Any other items I should consider?

Please let me know.

Answer:

The floating base design is common in professionally made aquariums and is the strongest way to produce the tank.

I do not think that if you load the aquarium in a normal manner that you will have any problems at all with the amount of rock or media that you can put in. You do of course have to be careful not to balance the whole lot on a single pressure point and should spread the load. Normal aquascaping will cause no problems.

The only other thing that should always be considered is that the aquarium is level as fitting on a base that is not level will put stresses on the glass and may cause it to fail. This is why Deltec Tanks are fitted with adjustable feet on the cabinets

All the best

Stuart
