Hello All,
I have a small marine aquarium for couple months now and decided to get a bigger one. If it’s possible I would like to get your advice for set up...
The tank custom build about 1000 litres it will be live rock and fish only. But I have to choose all equipment for it. My question is what skimmer, filters, pumps, wave makers, control unit etc... I should choose?
I really want to keep fish HAPPY and HEALTHY.
Best Regards,
Tomas
Hi Tomas
It is difficult to plan for pumps etc without knowing the dimensions of the
aquarium but for a 1000 lt fish only tank with live rock I would suggest the
following.
Lighting- A four tube T5 unit for a fish only tank, the Reflexx unit would
suit this well.

If you like the natural look of halide lighting then the 150 watt version of
the Infinity although this wouldn't really be needed for a fish only system.

Skimmer- The new TC2060 external or internal depending on sump space.

Reactors- A fluidised reactor containing carbon to keep the water free of
yellowing agents and another for Phosphate remover such as Rowaphos to keep
the water
free of PO4 as fish only systems tend to be fed quite heavily. PO4 in the
system will result in troublesome algae's

remover if your stocking is heavy, you my find the fr509 fine for the job
though.
Nitrate reactor- Depending on your stocking and feeding regime your fish
only aquarium might require the addition of a Nitrate reactor. This can be
included at a later date
if you find your stocking results in high Nitrate due to messy feeders etc.

Water movement in tank- Two of the Xwave pumps should be fine for your
aquarium, you can also adjust these for power output and there is an option
for a controller
for even more options with regards to the flow control.

Return pump- The HLP pump will be ideal for this, it will need to be plumbed
outside the sump as these pumps are not submersible. The sump can be
drilled, a tank connector
installed and the pump plumbed into the tank connector. You may be able to
split the return from the HLP at the water surface to split the flow, this
may well mean that you
will only have to use one Xwave pump although I would still pump for two to
help keep detritus in suspension.

You would also need to include a heating(around 300 watts if the aquarium is
in a centrally heated house) and of course high quality live rock.
If you let me know your local area I will ask a D-D sales rep to put you in
contact with a reputable D-D dealer in your area to discuss options in more
detail.
Regards and best wishes Tony
