Cleaning the AP851

Question:

Hi there i have just purchased an AP851 (second hand) what would be the best way to clean it properly and what parts should i be looking at to replace and therefore give optimum performance.

Mr jack

Answer:

Dear Mr Jack

I suggest filling the skimmer body with a mild acid solution such as 50% vinegar and
warm water to dissolve any calcium carbonate or calcareous algae's if the skimmer
has been subjected to a light source whilst running.

Once it has soaked for 24 hours clean the inside of the body with a soft sponge so
you don't scratch the body. Drain the skimmer and remove the pump.

Disassemble the pump and remove the impeller. Check that the rubber grommets
haven't shrunk and are still tight within their housings and that the impeller hasn't sustained
any damage. It would be prudent to change out the impeller shaft and grommets at
this time.

These can be ordered by contacting spares at spares@theaquariumsolution.com
The price for the shaft and grommets is £18.00 plus P&P

Whilst inside the pump please clean the venturi (small plastic pipe on the pump
pipework that the soft airline pushes onto) out with a small drill bit by hand to remove
any hard calcium deposits. Also clean inside the pump impeller well.

hope this helps
